Piling on the Pounds: Stephane Rolland’s 50 kilo Couture Gown
Talk about going out with a bang!
Designer Stephane Rolland certainly knows how to close a show!
Helped by two assistants on either side of her, Rolland’s muse, and former supermodel, Yasmin Le Bon took to the catwalk to exhibit Rolland’s show stopping red silk jersey dress. Adorned with metal panels on the bustier and front skirt. The train on the back of the dress was a staggering 45 meters long and weighed in at 50 kilos- basically the same size as Le Bon herself.
Definitely not a dress to run after the kids in. Or go shopping. Or go for dinner. Or basically go anywhere!
However that is what makes Couture so exciting. Couture creations allow designers to break boundaries. Create works of art. Leave the gowns open for visual interpretation .
The attention to detail, the spectacle of the dress itself and the sheer craftsmanship is to be applauded.
The rest of Rolland’s collection was less outrageous, but just as beautiful. Inspired by kinetic artist Michel Deverne the gowns were sculptural, exhibiting the female silhouette beautifully and allowing the audience to fully appreciate the fabrics which included silk jersey, gazar and organza.
A great deal of ivory was on show, along with drop waists and plunging necklines. The occasional shimmering breast plate or belt.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s show was just fantastic. A fantasy land of minx-like woman with attitude in abundance, referencing icons such as Madonna and the late Amy Winehouse.
So Exoxers I’ll be back on Friday with some alternative fashion inspiration, illustrations and high street finds. Hope you enjoyed this year’s S/S 2012 Couture xox posts. Love ya allxox
