Couture week has landed!
Paris Couture week is here!!
Couture week is a fashion extravaganza not to be missed. A feast for the eyes. A chance for us, the audience, to witness the most creative form of fashion designs and techniques in all their splendor.
For 6 glorious minutes we are transported in to a surreal but fabulous universe. A fantasy land. Music, lighting and set design enhance our viewing experience as we witness fashion gowns that are truly and utterly jaw dropping in design and creativity. Boundaries are crossed and dreams and imagery are brought to life.
Couture week is financially rewarding for the fashion houses.
Over the next week Paris becomes home to the most expensive gowns in the world. The world’s richest women travel to Paris to take their front row seats. PA and accountant sitting close by! After the shows the élite spenders are welcomed to the fashion houses’ show rooms where they can further study the gowns that were floating down the runway only hours before. Most with the starting price of £20,000 and upwards!
Some will buy for sheer pleasure in being able to afford such luxury. Others will buy for the investment potential . Most, however, buy because they lust after a one-off fashion masterpiece. They wish to adorn themselves, literally, in art. They desire the finest of materials, the most exquisite print detailing and enchanting precious jewels that are hand stitched by the designers themselves. They want the best of the best.
Never more clearly do we see art and commerce collide.
So now that I have babbled on about Couture proceedings lets get to the fun part: studying all the gorgeous gowns:)
Ok. So you, me, and most of the human population will not be sitting front row at Chanel Couture anytime soon.
That doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in the spectacle of the shows and view all the gorgeous dresses. It is also worth noteing that Couture Week is a great place to take inspiration for our own wardrobes. May it be from a specific theme, colour or print.
I will be dedicating this whole week to Couture Shows and will be posting image highlights from my favourite shows along with bits of gossips each day.
So lets begin. Versace was first to hit the catwalk this morning.
Christina Dior was up this afternoon. This being the second collection from Bill Gaytten since taking over from the mighty John Galliano.
See all you xoxoers tomorrow when the big guns, Chanel and Givenchy, will be showingxxxx
